Another Stab at the Constitution Summary

“Another Stab at the Constitution”

A discussion took placed by a group of educated individuals regarding the authority role of the US. Constitution since World War II. Numerous points where highlighted and emphasized since they require immediate attention for change. Here are some of the points discussed and addressed that stood out to me the most:

1.      “Limiting the time a Federal Judge is in Power”: It is essential to limit the amount of time a judge should be able to serve in the court in order to avoid the abuse of power. Judges that are currently selected are selected at a young age so they can server for long periods of time. Excellent examples of judges like J. Harvie Wilkinson & Diane Wood are believed to be “incompetent” to serve as judges due to their old age.

2.      “Clarifying the cruel and unusual punishment”: Higher officials tend to discriminate towards people of color and other minorities. Most minorities are treated and categorized as other delinquents of color. Everyone is different and every situation requires a different outlook. The 8th amendment should be encouraged and emphasized by individuals in power to make sure these changes occur. This will ultimately avoid many unfair treatments to those incarcerated and promise less abuse from people in power.

3.      “Allowing Naturalized Citizen to be President”: Society changes over time therefore the views of the individuals change as well. In the past, white people had more rights over things and were put first compared to other individuals. In present day America things have changed because women, blacks even gays are given similar like opportunities.

4.      “Do Away with the Electoral College”: when the election takes place, there is a popular vote and an electoral vote. The “popular vote” (peoples’ choice) doesn’t always guarantee presidency because that is the job of the electoral votes. The US. favors and praises the idea of democracy however, our own government contradicts the true meaning. How can the people be heard when they go in favor of something and their representatives choose otherwise? That is because the electoral college for their own conveniences sometime decide that “individuals don’t know what is best for them”.

5.      “Getting rid of fire arms”: Removing illegal weapons from the street is crucial for the safety of school and work zones. Many community members are killed by individuals who have illegal possession of a weapon. Gun violence has truly become an issue that is out of control and worries myself and others of society because a gun in the wrong hands can take and endanger the life of many. This is something that must not be taken upon lightly since many more tragedies continue to occur world wide do to gun violence.
