Civil Disobedience
In the Declaration of rights and
Sentiments, Elizabeth Cady Stanton states, “All men and women are created equal
as they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights”. Elizabeth
Cady Stanton along with Susan B Anthony highlight some of the issues related to
equality and citizenship. Both of these women fought for women equal rights
including women’s right to vote. Susan B Anthony went to court against the
United States after she tried to vote and got arrested for doing so. In her
trial she explained how the “political system contradicts itself by saying depriving
“citizens” from their rights and not treating every “citizen” equal”.
I picked
this particular quote because I am a total Feminist. It’s interesting to see
how history plays a major role in today’s society. Segregating women and poor
views on them go way back when the constitution was written. We still see
similar treatment when Hilary Clinton ran for president as she won the popular vote and
lost the electoral vote partially for being a woman. History repeats itself over and over as America wants to be "great again"( conserving the Anglo-Saxon views) but promotes "equality and justice for all citizens (yet it exclude all the other race)".
